Even though we all consider Mercedes-Benz as a luxury brand, they do exist as a commercial vehicle maker as well and weirdly enough, they’re not the most luxurious choice.
The Mercedes-Benz Viano is about to change that since the Germans are going to equip it to a special Avantgarde trim level called the Edition 125.
In becoming the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 the Teutonic van now became a proper luxury lugger.
It’s now a vehicle that has style, helped along by 19-inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels and a paint finish that’s either obsidian black or brilliant silver metallic.
Power comes from V6 units only, the 3 liter CDI unit develops 224 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque whereas the 3.5 liter petrol serves up 285 horsepower and less torque.
The performance figures translate into different times from 0-60 and also for the top speed. As you’d expect the diesel gets better acceleration and the petrol gets a higher top speed.
While the engine choices are now quietly impressive, the real strength of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde 125 is the interior and the driver feel and response it delivers.
The Viano Avantgarde 125 Edition’s comfortable leather seats, sports pedals in brushed stainless steel and individual seating for the passengers.
I guess the basic commercial van can become a luxury vehicle from time to time, at least if you’re called Mercedes-Benz.
