Some cars are fast, some cars are safe, some cars are good looking and some cars are very luxurious and then there are those that are just plain fun.
Have a guess with just which of these categories does the brand new 2012 Mercedes SLK fall under?
This was already established with previous versions so it’s no wonder that the three pointed star would go to a considerable amount of trouble to keep the fun in this roadster.
At the core of all this achievement, just as in previous versions, is a glorious V8 engine. Unlike relatives from the AMG stable, the SLK ditches a twin turbo setup and retains with the full blooded naturally aspirated engine.
It may sound like a setback to plenty of you, but underneath the marketing bits, it is actually a fully capable engine, with a new tune of 415 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque.
The containment of that sort of fury under the bonnet of the 2012 Mercedes SLK is done with a 7-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission that sends power, where else but the rear wheels alone.
Performance wise, the 2012 Mercedes SLK AMG can go from 0 to 62 in just 4.6 seconds and it can continue accelerating all the way up to an electronically limited 155 mph.
Incredibly though, despite the added performance of the smaller 5.5 liter V8, it manages to get 27.6 mpg US, yet another improvement on top of the larger 6.3 that didn’t produce quite as much power.
