I said it once, I’ll probably say it a million times: Fiat has gone too far trying to milk the iconic 500 model for all the money they can.

Out of this desire a lot of alternative version were built, including the 500L, which promised to bring the 500 in a way a family can enjoy it.

Well, things are not quite as you might expect, and a recent small overlap test conducted by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) revealed the car to be exactly what I call it: a money grab. With an overall safety rating of “Poor”, the Fiat 500L quickly transforms the family car into a death trap.

To be completely fair, the small overlap crash test is one of the more brutal tests out there, and when it first came on the market, most cars were ill build to handle it. But this is year 2014, and for a car like the Fiat 500L, a rating like that seems unacceptable.
