The next-gen Opel Astra has been recently caught on shots by spy photographers from Inautonews online auto magazine, the model undergoing some tests all wrapped in camouflage, before its official unveil at the end of the year.
Mind the fact that this is just a test mule and the final version might be coming with some additional changes at the body, inside or under the hood as well. But since the camouflage is all wrapped on the body, it means that the 2016 Opel Astra, or the Opel Astra K, will come with a lot of changes, make it almost unrecognizable compared to the present model.
First off, the 2016 Opel Astra will still keep the 3-, the 5-door and the wagon body style, standing on the company`s new platform, called the D2XX, also shared with the Chevy Volt. The D2XX platform will allow an all-wheel-drive layout, as the next Opel models from the C-segment will receive this particular layout.
Under the hood, the 2016 Opel Astra will get the same engine lineup with four-cylinder configuration, but the company will also add up the 1.0-liter EcoTec three-cylinder unit, with 115 horsepower. More information with the model`s performance and features inside the cabin will be known later on, when the model is expected to debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show or shown at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
