At the 2017 NAIAS, taking place in Detroit these days, Subaru has delivered as it promised at the end of last year – the all-new 2018 WRX and WRX STI, two exceptional rides that come with new mechanics and increase performance.

We are looking here at the facelifted versions of last year`s models, both coming with an updated body styling and plenty of new stuff inside.

From a visual standpoint, the 2018 WRX and WRX STI are coming with a more evolutionary design, highlighted by the new front fascia and LED steering responsive headlights, more aggressive front splitter and wider air intake.

But there are some design detailing that separates both versions. For instance, the base WRX is now featuring red brake calipers or the new 18-inch double-spoke alloy wheels, while the STI is now equipped with the 19-inch alloys and new braking systems.

Inside, the cabin of the entry-level WRX comes with the Recaro seats or the up-to-date JURID brake pads; on the other hand, the WRX STI adds the 5.9-inch display, which is quite a significant improvement from last year`s 4.3-inch multi-function display. Both versions also share common features, such as rear armrests with cup holders, revised door handles and so on.

Mechanically, the 2018 Subaru WRX and WRX STI are also equipped with the high-performance Brembo braking system with six-piston calipers and monoblock two-piston calipers front and rear, adding as well wider rotors with updated ventilation.

In the engine department, the standard WRX comes with a 2.0-liter turbo engine, developing 197 kW and 350 Nm of torque, being sent to the all wheels via an all-wheel drive system with active torque vectoring. On the other hand, the WRX STI keeps the previous 2.5-liter turbocharged mill with 221 kW and 407 Nm of torque, available between 4,000 – 5,200 rpm.
