Alfa Romeo may be suffering a few issues from various boring, economical and financial reasons but that somehow doesn’t seem to be at the top of their priority list.

Not only is that classic Italian car maker logistic and business sense but it’s also an incredible petrolhead favor point gaining solution.

To make for a petrolhead combo solution, the iconic Italian brand is working on a new car, a rear wheel drive flagship no less.

Where the news isn’t completely congratulatory is in seeing how Alfa Romeo plans to underpin this new car they’re making with some shared components from the Chrysler 300.

The Chrysler 300 is one great car and it even managed to impress the sometimes difficult audience of Consumer Reports.

Despite this, I’m betting most of those earlier thrilled petrolheads will shake their heads in disbelief. Then again, Alfa Romeo’s very own 166 was never as good as it looked so who knows, maybe they’re onto something here.

Plus, a rear wheel drive drivetrain opens up the door for plenty more Alfa Romeo power to be put to the wheels. I’m already drooling about the idea of a new RWD flagship with the Alfa Romeo 8C’s V8 under the bonnet.

The only thing that slightly worries me is what the Italians are going to call it. We know the 147 replacement is called the Giulietta and the much delayed 159 replacement is the Giulia.

Could the new Alfa Romeo flagship be called Mama Giulia?
