The automotive industry keeps on moving faster and faster but it’s still quite a long way behind the world of motorsport.
For that world, we have this new racer unveiling from Ingolstadt, a very special edition of their mid engine flagship called the Audi R8 LMS Ultra.
It may be a racer, but it is available for purchase to privateer teams and gentlemen racing individuals rather than just being run by the manufacturer and hidden away in a shed after every race.
The Audi R8 LMS Ultra offers up a punch in power, but that’s not the biggest improvement offered here as a full racing car is generally focused on the Spiderman principle.
Naturally, the 5.2 liter V10 engine is used but it is tuned up to a 570 horsepower performance figure but the exhaust, intake, number of driven wheels and a few other things will be determined by whatever class the R8 LMS Ultra is used to compete in.
What is unlikely to change anytime soon about the Audi R8 LMS Ultra racer is the stripped down weight from all aspects, the naked interior and the FIA-spec roll cage fitted.
The same stands true for the aggressive aerodynamic package that includes an enormous rear wing, front – rear lips that nearly touch the pavement and sideskirts of the same height level.
Aided by front bumper canards, and a special hood, the Germans claim it to be balanced out aerodynamically with various adjustments.
At the end of line, the Audi R8 LMS Ultra comes with some suspension that, although adjustable, is basically made out of diamonds and works well with lightweight racing wheels.
