In case you missed it, shame on you. Ferrari just revealed the 458’s Challenge version at the 2010 Bologna Motor Show.

The Ferrari 458 Challenge is the hardcore version of the “normal” 458. This machine is purely track focused.

Right, so on to the mods.

For starters, let’s not look under the bonnet as there aren’t any over there. The 458 Challenge uses the same powerplant as it’s road going sibling.

From there on, things change. A lot. For starters, the gearbox now has gearing that’s better biased for acceleration. The Ferrari 458 Challenge also features the E-Diff, as a premiere for track focused cars from the Italian manufacturer.

The wheels have now grown to 19 inches and feature a single lug secure method. Around them we can find some enormous Pirelli tires and underneath them we find the best brakes in the business. A Brembo setup that is very similar to what you may find in the Ferrari 599XX.

The suspension has hardly changed but to be honest, given the Ferrari 458’s setup nothing really needs changing. The body and build process has changed though. The Ferrari 458 Challenge features thinner body panels, carbon fiber and lexan construction and all of these add up to less weight.

After all the modifications have been taken into consideration the Ferrari 458 Challenge is said to be more than a beast. It’s apparently capable of generating 1.6 Gs in a fast bend.
