New Dehli Auto Expo is the place to be these days. All manufacturers launch concept cars and production models adapted to local requirements. It’s Chevrolet’s case too: they just unveiled two concept cars ready to hit the production line: Essentia Sedan and Beat Active.
Essentia belongs to the subcompact class, and it’s based on the “small, but roomy” idea. It looks simple, but stylish and the equipment can be quite interesting, including leather upholstery and multimedia system, with Android and Apple connectivity. It will also be equipped in standard version with dual airbags, ABS and rear-view camera. The shown color combination of the interior is exquisite, but not too dirt-resistant, which can be a problem in this segment.
However, let’s keep in mind that this is only the show-off car, therefore the production model will probably is likely to have a more black-grey interior color combination. Overall, the exterior muscular lines, as the interior dashboard design look like an evolution of the European Aveo Sedan. What’s certain is that Essentia will be the smallest sedan produced by Chevrolet.
The new model, based on the current Beat, is likely to borrow its engines: a petrol unit, of 1.2l producing 77hp and 107Nm torque, and a 1.0l Diesel engine of 56hp and 142Nm. Probably the price range to be in the lower zone of the segment, due to Chevrolet’s aggressive plan of increasing its presence in India. Though it’s clear that Essentia is going to be a production car, there’s no word regarding when it will hit the showroom.
