We’ve heard a lot about the Fiat 500, and we’ve also heard quite a lot about the Italian company’s efforts to expand it into new products.
The Fiat 500L is a pretty handy piece of kit but at its release some lucky journalists got to sneak a peek at something more exciting than that.
It’s called the Fiat 500X and it’s obviously the small crossover version of the cute little hatchback.
The looks are equally impressive and it seems to look quite a lot like the 500L model albeit with a tougher look and a raised ride height.
Most of these changes are part of the crossover… crossover but Fiat has made quite the handy piece of work out of it and it looks considerably adequate for the job.
When the new Fiat 500X is actually released it will come with its updated exterior and a newly touched up interior as well but not too much will be changed underneath.
The platform will be an updated version of the same Fiat Panda underpinnings that are the basis of just about every car nowadays.
As for the engines, the same ones will be available as they include a 0.9 liter two-cylinder turbocharged TwinAir gasoline and 1.3 liter MultiJet turbo diesel.
These are the familiar sights for the average Fiat customer and they are also a sign of some serious reliability standards.
The new Fiat 500X should enter production next year and rumor has it Jeep will create a spinoff themselves in 2014.
