We never really knew the Italians as being the sort of people that actually keep to themselves when it comes to cars so here is Fiat with a different sort of announcement.
The launch of the TwinAir engine was a massive step for them and after numerous awards and rave reviews, they decided to make it feel more important than otherwise perceived.
Future Fiat 500 lineups will include the TwinAir not only as an engine choice option, but as an option altogether because it will be naming a new trim level.
Why? Not only is it good for marketing, but it’s extremely good for image, Italians can’t really do without it and nor can many other people either.
The 0.9 liter Fiat TwinAir will no longer be just the fuel saver and the target motorization of the environmental minded drivers but a new experience.
According to Fiat, we should view the 500 TwinAir as a fun to drive car one that not only handles well but also goes well.
I get where they’re coming from but with 85 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque available you can do much more than economize.
Even with the added charm of F1 driver Fernando Alonso and all the ad speak in the world, a 0 to 62 time of 11 seconds and a top speed of just over 100 mph isn’t that much fun.
Perhaps the enjoyment will come from the interior with the satin chrome finish of the dashboard and the perforated leather.
I’ll try and give to Cesar what’s his and say that the options thrown in with the TwinAir trim are pretty tempting though. There’s 15 inch Total Black alloy wheels, there’s an upgraded stereo and a host of safety features.
