Ford sells pickup trucks in record numbers, especially the F-150 model. Ever since the F-150 got the new 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine things just went from great to better.
To prove that Ford isn’t just marketing this right, they showed off the way the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine is built.
In a recent campaign, Ford took a regular F-150 and fitted it with a less than regular 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine.
The engine isn’t special as far as production is concerned but rather testing wise. This particular F-150 engine saw the equivalent of 150,000 harsh user miles on the dynamometer. The next step saw the same engine in a F-150 pickup that was used for logging purposes.
After this rather serious testing, the same engine went to a Nascar track in Miami where it ran for 24 hours continuously while towing 11.300 pounds of trailer.
After this sort of ordeal, that beaten up EcoBoost 3.5 liter engine was put into a Ford F-150 racing truck and sent off to race at the Baja 1000.
The EcoBoost engine managed to finish the 2010 Tecate Score Baja 1000 and finish well at that. It only took the Ford F-150 racer 38 hours to cover 1061 miles of desert course.
Seeing how the same engine went through all of this and is still running at optimal capacity one can clearly state that Ford’s Built Though slogan isn’t just hot air.
