I guess that making the Hyundai Velostar as unnaturally fun as it is, was a little too ambitious for the Koreans on some level.
According to a few recent reports, while thrilled at the relatively weird four door setup with different side profiles, somebody at Hyundai thinks the Velostar’s sales could be helped along with a different approach.
The plan would call to change the access situation to a more reasonable and familiar five door version for the Hyundai Velostar.
We can’t really say anything about how Hyundai should deal with their sales and marketing departments because both of them do rather brilliantly.
As far as the conventional aspects of the Hyundai Velostar are concerned I frankly couldn’t care less, I was hoping they’d be making it faster or selling sooner.
Planned for a 2012 model year the Hyundai Velostar’s revealed version should hit the market later this year and there’s quite spec sheet on it.
Even though it is only powered by direct injected 1.6 liter engine rated at 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque it has managed to capture the hearts of quite a few reviewers.
Once you get past slightly asthmatic engine you have to pick a six speed transmission and it should be either a dual clutch or a manual setup.
The manual is apparently the one to go for. Not because the Hyundai Veloster comes with a bad automatic but for a much deeper reason.
Most people claim that despite the immense amount of equipment and the lack of badge prestige and racing heritage of the company, the Hyundai Velostar can be associated with the Honda CRX, a true street hero.
While waiting on the Hyundai Veloster Turbo to happen, a five door may prove to be a better way of ensuring freedom and joy to the young people that are in the market for such a car.
Probably not the most fascinating of topics but I should point out that at the moment, the Korean hatchback has an unconventional setup of its four doors and the asymmetric design features two on the passenger side (one being a suicide version) and a single one on the driver side.
The fourth door is a rear hatch which participates to the youthful design and the wacky feel of the rest of the Hyundai Veloster.
An official announcement on the five door Veloster should come up as soon as Hyundai gears itself up for global markets.
