You win some, you lose some… The Koreans have recently had activity that can be summed up in a single word: “booming”.

But sometimes, no matter how careful you are or how good you plan things, there are some teething problems.

This seems to manifest itself when we take a closer look at the Kia Sorento. The NHTSA discovered a relatively serious problem with the rear brakes of the Korean SUV.

Apparently there was some manufacturing defect in them which meant that the rear brake calipers weren’t properly done. As a result, over time, they may leak braking fluid.

While the leak itself is not very important, over sustained periods it would light up the dashboard warning of your Kia Sorento. Other side effects would be a brake pedal that’s slightly spongy.

Should the problem not be attended to for a serious amount of time, the Kia Sorento would experience brake failure and an increased risk of potential crashes.

Kia acted upon the NHTSA notification and announced that its dealers will inspect and replace the rear calipers if necessary at no charge.

Pretty much standard stuff but if you’re one of the 8.000 owners of such an SUV you should take care and visit your dealer as soon as possible.
