Any owner or connoisseur of Lotus products is a person who really knows about how these cars really belongs on a track.
Therefore the Lotus Cup USA finally give many of the owners of such British lightweight creations a chance to stretch their legs properly.
Helped along by great California weather around the Willow Springs Rosamond racetrack the first edition of the Lotus Cup USA went off to a great start.
The event had five parts, the Lotus 2-Eleven section, the Exige Cup, the Production class and the Lotus Open.
The fifth section would be regarding the Lotus Evora but since that’s more of an experience drive for VIPs than a proper race series it’s probably the least important.
As you’d imagine the Production class is focused on factory made Lotus cars with very limited modifications being permitted.
The Lotus Open category is at the other end and it includes all sorts of modified Lotus cars or other lightweight British creations that don’t fall under the rest of these categories.
With the European version being quite a presence and the Lotus Cup USA getting off to a great start I’d say the good old Colin Chapman is resting at ease.
Lotus it is good, as it is a pity that we don’t have such races.
