The Mercedes-Benz GLK is possibly on of the company’s most imposing products. It’s also one of the company’s thirstiest products as well.

In trying to settle the second aspect of the car Mercedes has announced that the 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK will get the chance to be powered by a diesel engine in U.S. spec.
To be specific, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK will be powered in diesel form by the 2.2 liter Bluetec engine the Germans have available. This option will most likely add a few thousands of dollars to the final price of a GLK.
If that doesn’t scare you, you’ll get along fine with the 2.2 liter four cylinder turbocharged unit. If however it does bother you, perhaps the great fuel saving advantage the diesel has over the petrol powered GLK brothers will most likely even this thing out.
Once the Bluetec diesel will be available in the Mercedes GLK it will open a path. That path will soon be followed by the C-Class and the E-Class saloons. It seems that Mercedes is aiming for a bigger market for the diesel powered units in America and if that means putting oil burners into about each model they sell that won’t be a problem.
