A short while ago there was a summit where there was a Europe wide decision. All manufacturers must bring their average level of CO2 emissions down. An even shorter while ago, there was something called the Paris Motor Show where Mercedes Benz had a bit of a press conference.

Care to imagine how these two things come together? At that particular press conference, Mercedes CEO, Dieter Zetsche together with Annette Winkler, Smart’s first representative emphasized on a few points regarding the future of the father company and spoke of the pipeline of products they have available.
The most important aspects of the pipeline of the brand were focused on the new Mercedes CLS less and on the new Smart Scooter more as well as a four cylinder diesel S Class, and an Ecell version of the A Class.
The whole point was full of words like environmental, fuel consumption, emissions and all that lot. After saying all this stuff, the head of Mercedes, Mr. Dieter Zetsche made a point out of stressing the fact that his company wants to become leaders in the efficiency department and that his company will achieve this goal even if it will require to do things that were previously considered unthinkable. This could mean that some of the brand’s glamor or image will be lost but that Mercedes will gain extra points from the Green party.
I’m not so sure about that, but I do think that this is just a move made by Mercedes to keep up the pace set by the rivals at BMW and Audi not that long ago.
