The new Golf R is looking forward to welcoming its little brother Polo R into the subcompact class. The new great looking Volkswagen Polo R might receive an all-wheel-drive system and 250 horsepower for its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
The folks from Autocar were the first to report the news, claiming that the drivetrain of the Polo R was also developed to equip the forth-coming Audi S1.
Last year, the German group also came out with an R version for its Polo, which was the Polo R WRC Special Edition, sporting 220 horsepower and only a front-wheel drive. The production didn’t exceed 2,500 units.
Now, the Volkswagen Group is trying to build a more powerful Polo R version to promote the title it won last year for the WRC category.
Rumors from inside state that the new Polo R with all-wheel drive might hit 60mph in less than 6.0 seconds and that the fresh subcompact might have a limited top speed of 155 mph.
The current 2014 Polo R WRC accelerates to 60 mph in around 6.4 seconds and has a limited top speed of 151 mph. We will have to let time decide if the new Polo R will be coming soon or not.
