Jeep’s new version of the Patriot is quite a car and a definite step forward but so far it lacked something in the engine department.

This problem has been solved, the Jeep Patriot’s engine range is now completed by a more modern diesel engine choice.
The new 2.2 liter CRD engine that powers the new Jeep Patriot is now sourced from the Germans at Mercedes.
The previous diesel the Patriot was running came from VW and was a 2 liter unit that started to show it’s age. By comparison, the new Mercedes sourced diesel features 200 more “cubes”, common rail technology and the same inline four layout.
The performance figures the new diesel engine produces are 163 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. This is enough to get the new Jeep Patriot from 0 to 62 in just over 10 seconds and on to a top speed of 125 mph.
Given that the new Jeep Patriot is still an off-road oriented vehicle those figures are more than respectable. The fuel economy figures come at 42.8 mpg on a combined cycle.
Speaking of the fuel economy figures, these are in UK measurements as that’s where the new Jeep Patriot will be available first.

In base form the new Jeep Patriot 2.2 CRD will set you back £21.995 but you should always consider the option list which includes the trim levels you’re used to; the Sport, Sport+, Overland and Limited.
