Toyota released details and pricing on the RAV4 EV, the zero-emission model based on the well-known RAV4 SUV.
The pure-electric Japanese model is powered by an electric motor offering 154 horsepower which ensures a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 7 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h.
The lithium-ion battery takes about six hours to charge but provides a driving range of about 160 kilometers.
In order to improve the performance, Toyota reworked the exterior by adding new bumpers, side mirrors, under body panels, lower grille and more. These tweaks improved the drag coefficient to 0.30 while LED daytime running lights are also present in the front.
“It’s all about blending the best of two worlds. The all-new RAV4 EV marries the efficiency of an EV with the versatility of a small SUV,” said the company.
The power train is built by Tesla at the Palo Alto plant in California, Toyota planning to produce about 2,600 vehicles in the next three years.
The new Toyota RAV4 EV is priced from $49,800 and will go on sale this summer in the United States.
