Toyota the Japanese based manufacturer stationed in the US, has issued a voluntary recall for the 2003 and 2004 Avalon sedan models due to airbag issues.
The recall is made for 119,000 Avalon units that have been reported with some safety issues at their airbags not properly deploying.
The airbag issues refer to the circuits of the control module that might be damaged entirely. This might activate the front-airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners.
Thus, a solution to the problem would be adding an electrical noise filter to the module in question. The Toyota dealers will be soon notifying its owners by mail.
Cindy Night, the Public Affairs representative at Toyota, has declared to Autoblog that there was an “injury caused by the sudden deployment”, but fortunately no crashes or accidents were reported.
The Toyota manufacturer is preparing the parts to be replaced on the Avalon model, and the entire repairing process will not take more than 90 minutes. No other models were affected, according to Knight.
There were also recalled around 370,000 Avalon units from 2000-2004 back in 2010, due to issues with the steering lock. New steering column bracket were immediately installed.
