Volkswagen introduces today two new frugal models, namely the e-Gold and e-up!, namely the electric versions of the standard models.
To begin with, the e-Golf is based on the newest generation and comes with an electric motor offering 115hp and 270Nm of torque, making the 0-100 km/h sprint possible in 10,4 seconds with a top speed of 130 km/h.
Even though we talk about a fully electric model, there are no reason to worry as Volkswagen promises a driving range of 190 kilometers with a charging time of 30 minutes (to 80%) with a CCS charging station.
The little brother of the e-Golf, the e-up! comes with a less powerful 82-horsepower electric motor offering a 0-100 km/h sprint in 12,4 seconds and a top speed of 130 km/h. The driving range is almost similar at 160 kilometers thanks to an 18.7 kWh battery.
“Given an electricity price of €0.258 per kWh (Germany, as of 31st July 2013), driving 100 km with the e-up! costs just €3.02, and with the e-Golf it is around €3.30,” claims VW.
