Volvo’s V40 is looking pretty good in terms of future sales, especially considering the incredible appeal of its raised safety levels and great looks.

On top of that there’s a good lineup of engines, a clever interior and a certain desirability factor that’s missing from so many hatchbacks these days.

All of these serious plus points are about to introduce themselves to a new one with the introduction of the Cross Country variant.

Cross Country is a name that sits in good stead at Volvo and it means a raised ride height, beefed up suspension and all wheel drive capabilities.

These include a reinforced under-body, different bumpers and some side skirts which look tough enough to take on some mountain bike paths.

It seems that the guys at Volvo worked things out properly and that they are just about ready to bring this new V40 Cross Country to the market.

Pending a Paris Motor Show unveiling, it should be just a few months before we can find it on the market. Unsurprisingly, it will come with about the same sort of kit inside and the same engines under the bonnet.

The 1.6 liter turbocharged entry level engine will miss out on the V40 Cross Country, most likely due to drivetrain losses or fuel economy concerns.

What I really want to see is the alloy wheels from this model being available as an option on the regular hatchback.

More details should come in about a week as the Paris Motor Show really kicks into action.
