It seems now that the Caterham F1 team has been sold, and the company has cooled off and is ready to continue with the rest of the brand.

The remaining brands under their wings include the Caterham Cars, Caterham Composites, Caterham Technology & Innovation (CTI), Caterham Racing (GP2), Caterham Moto Racing Team (Moto2) and Caterham Bikes. The official statement says the remaining brands are what constitutes the “core elements of the Caterham Group”.

Truth be told, it kind of seems that Caterham was just itching to get rid of the F1 part, which, in all honesty, has been rather underperforming in recent years. Let’s just hope that the rest of the brands under Caterham’s name will continue to be productive, otherwise they might follow in the footsteps of the F1.

The 0-100 km/h sprint is possible in 6,5 seconds with a top speed of 161 km/h, all thanks to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The company says that the engine is a three-cylinder turbocharged unit and is EU6 compliant.

“The 160 offers something truly different to the entry-level market. It’s more economical, more accessible and every bit as fun on the road as other Sevens but has its own unique personality,” says Caterham.

Slated to hit the showrooms next spring, the new Caterham Seven 165 starts at £14,995. For this amount of money you will get the components but you can opt for the fully built unit for £17,995. Production will start in the first month of 2014.

It features a futuristic appearance but is meant to preview an upcoming production model which should debut next year. The British model is based on the Caterham Seven CSR platform and is equipped with a 240-horsepower Ford engine.

Even the performance figures are not overwhelming, the low total mass of the model makes the 0-100 km/h sprint possible in just 4 seconds.

Other features of the new Caterham AeroSeven Concept include a two-color exterior finish, new alloy wheels with yellow inserts, adjustable traction control and a special Engine Management System.

“The AeroSeven Concept is stacked with race car-inspired features, including aerodynamic styling, an exclusive steering wheel with driver-focused functionality,” says the company.

Power is offered by a 2.0-liter Ford engine producing 311 horsepower and 296Nm of torque, enough for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2,7 seconds.

The front end of the model is specially designed to improve the air flow while a new cooling system improves the performance as well.

Other features include a gunmetal chassis, De Dion rear suspension, Q/R racing steering wheel, bucket seats and new 13-inch alloy wheels fitted with beefier Avon ZZR rubber.

The new Caterham 620R will go on sale later this year after it will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an event which opens its gates in the coming days. Pricing starts at £49,995 or €58,000 for the base model.

Yet Caterham owner Tony Fernandez thinks that will not be enough to get the brand known across the globe.

To this end, plans are laid out to build several new model under the Cartham emblem. The first will be a personal version of Renault’s Alpine, that will sport a more accommodating price, estimated around 35.000 GBP. So far rumors place a 1.6 liter turbocharged engine under the hood capable of delivering 300 Hp.

And while this model will surely be a welcome sight, Caterham’s plans to take on the global market involves a crossover and a subcompact model. While the Alpine spin-off is set to debut next year, we don’t know too much about the other future models, so we’ll just have to wait for more details to reach the internet.

Now, Caterham comes and says they will be keeping the promise they made then, as the new base model will fetch the price of 15.000 GBP (23.000 USD) and will be available come September.

While we still didn’t receive any other specs, or even more pictures, the yet to be named model will be compliant with the new Euro6 standards. Catarham also decided to use a different suspension system, and plans are in place to even get better fuel efficiency out of it.

As the Caterham Seven was purposely built as a track car, the new model might be viewed as a compromise, or as a starter vehicle for new enthusiasts. In their own words, the new model will be “a car built for the driver who wants to drive, but also for one who doesn’t need extreme power.”

Such is the case of a certain guy going by the name Sheepo, that combines his love of cars with his passion for Lego.

From this union many interesting projects have emerged, like suspensions made of Lego or even a Land Rover Defender. His latest project involves a British track icon, the Caterham Seven. Made completely out of Lego, Sheepo’s version of the Seven is a one to seven scale model that keeps very close to the original.

The Lego Caterham Seven has working steering, double wishbone front suspension and Ackerman geometry in front, a three link De Dion rear suspension in back and even disc brakes. When Sheepo built the gear box, he deviated a bit, building a five speed sequential gear box that even includes a reverse.

It seems that this year, many car makers reached certain milestones, and each decided to celebrate by giving something back to the buyers and supporters that carried them this far.

Caterham is not one to break the pattern, and their gift for the community consists of a Limited Edition package for the Seven. Going one step further, they plan to celebrate their 40th anniversary by giving it away for free to the first 40 clients that buy one of their cars.

This Caterham Seven limited edition brings a grey chassis similar to the original Lotus Seven, a ruby red paint with hood stripes and new 15 inch alloy wheels with a “40yoc” center. The inside is draped in leather, with hand-tailored leather seats, grey leather dashboard, tunnel top with grey handbrake and gearstick gaiters, and a numbered dash plaque.

Even the engine’s output won’t tell you that the Caterham Supersport R is able to get such performance figures, the low total mass of just 535 kilograms makes this possible.

Other mechanical changes include a retuned suspension with new dampers and springs, a set of Avon CR500 tires but also a limited-slip differential.

Inside, buyers will find a new pair of seats with four-point harnesses, a redesigned steering wheel and more. The new Caterham Supersport R receives a starting price of £24,995 for the kit and £27,995 for the built model.
