As for the updated technology, Maserati has implemented some new features like Highway Assist adaptive cruise control, electronic steering system with a two-level autonomous driving capability, electronic power steering and soft-close doors.

As for power underneath its skin, the new 2018 Maserati Quattroporte brags with a 3,0-liter twin-turbo Ferrari-developed V6, which in its highest variant produces no less than 390 kW and 650 Nm of torque. The high-end version also comes with a standstill of just 4.7 seconds.

Visually, the all-new 2018 Maserati Quattroporte has been enhanced as well with new LED adaptive headlights in all variants. However, the top versions stand out with gloss black grille that increases its aggressive look.

Almost every supercar maker has now an SUV flagship waiting to hit different markets worldwide and Maserati has got to go to Australia with its own Levante SUV, one of the most astonishing SUVs I have ever laid my eyes on.

It is an extremely imposing SUV measuring 5,003 mm long, 1,968 mm wide and 1,679 mm high, and stands on the same platform as the Ghibli or Quattroporte. Overall, the Levante SUV stands-out from the crowd with an elegant design, fine lines and sheer performance under the hood.

All three versions come with standard equipment, such as the 8.4-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, wood trim, heated seats and so on.

In the engine department, the all-new Maserati Levante SUV is being offered with a standard 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 engine, churning out a good 202 kW and 600 Nm of torque, which makes it one of the most powerful SUVs ever built on the market.

The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in just 6.9 seconds, at a topping of 185 km/h. The Maserati Levante is also burning out just 7.2 L for every 100 km/h.

As any other carmaker, Maserati’s purpose to lowering the CO2 emissions until 2020 falls upon its engine range. After offering a 3 liter diesel engine under the Ghibli’s hood, the recently unveiled Levante will receive a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is the one that equips the Chrysler Pacifica, and it is not expected power the SUV before 2018. The hybrid is a combination of a naturally aspirated 3.6 liter engine and two electric motors, which pull the energy from a 16 kWh battery. It can work either as an electric propulsion, for up to 48 km or as a traditional gasoline engine, when the battery runs out of juice. The 3.6 liter engine is the same under the non-hybrid version’s hood, but it offers a smaller power: 248 hp and 312 Nm. However, we expect Maserati to increase the output, to match the sporty Levante’s character. Using a domestic 240 V socket will charge the battery in 120 minutes, which is very quick giving the fully-electric range. The same hybrid is very likely to equip also the other Maserati models until 2020, because of the upcoming regulations. They will force the carmakers to have at least an electrified powertrain in each model by 2020.

The second news is about the sales number the end of this decade. If a few years ago, the plan was to sale about 50.000 cars, according to the Head of Maserati, Herald Wester, the Italian brand will probably sale half of this number. The next priorities for Maserati are the Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio’s successor, which will delay the development of Alfieri. Though initially it was announced to due on sale sometime in 2018, it seems that 2020 will be a more realistic version.

It is the first time in the 100 years of Maserati history when they produce an SUV. Also, it’s the first Italian premium SUV, and it’s able to fight with the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. In fact, its silhouette is somewhere between X5 and X6, looking very dynamic with its inclined tailgate. There’s no doubt about its Maserati origin, no matter the view angle. However, the new elements are the front lights, which are now tapered and connected to the front grille.

There’s quite a lot of chrome in the vertical grille elements, while centered badge is overdimensioned. On the sides, the dynamic line is emphasized by the three Quattroporte-like air grilles and the typical trapezoidal C-pillar. An interesting feature is the frameless windows, emblematic for Maseratti. In the rear, a stylish wing shades the tapered window, while the elegantly lines loose themselves on the rounded surfaces. Maserati states that the typical Italian agility is doubled by an “unrivalled” handling in slippery conditions and very good off-road skills. From the base version, the Levante will be equipped with a highly complex electronically suspension, including controlled damping and adjustable air springs. More, all the version will benefit over the Q4 intelligent all-wheel drive system and the already known 8-speed automatic transmission, but special tuned for the SUV’s demands.

There aren’t many official words about the engines: under the hood we’ll find both gasoline and diesel, Euro 6-compliant. I remind you that I expect the engine line to contain V6 and V8 gasoline, together with the 3-liter diesel. We expect it at Geneva, but nothing had been officially stated. What is 100% sure is that the teaser is authentic. Judging by the picture, it looks mean. It seems to say: ”move out of the way or else…”, with the front grille shaped like a mouth showing its clenched teeth. Neither the eyes look more friendly, with the frowned eyebrows slightly shaped by the LED daytime running lamps. The two side air intakes look big enough to cool the high-output engines.

Speaking of engines, the well-known V6 and V8 gasoline, together with the 3-liter diesel engine will animate the Italian SUV. The big, twin-turbo V8, developed with Ferrari will probably produce over 550 hp, while the most powerful diesel engine will be capable of way over 300 hp (considering its current power of 275 hp). An eight-speed automatic ZF transmission will send the power to all the wheels via the Q4 all-wheel drive system, already known from Ghibli and Quattroporte. There is no information about a six-speed manual transmission, and it is probably not to have one in the menu, since there are no manual gearboxes in the Maserati range.

We remind you that the Levante was announced by the Kubang concept four years ago, and it’s going to be a rival for the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5.

The blue Alfieri Shooting Brake also comes with its own personality, thanks to the muscular wheel arches or longer roofline, which make the approach a little more aggressive. Again, there are no rumors that the carmaker would be planning such a model.

Maserati has recently postponed the launching of the Alfieri model, which was supposed to happen next year, the carmaker planning the car`s introduction somewhere in 2018. When it will come, rumors have it that it would borrow the general design cues of the Concept version, while under the hood, the model is also said to pack a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine.

The same report also states that the future Maserati Gran Turismo would come in a Coupe only body style, as a Convertible version might not fulfill the company`s needs, even if in the United States, the model is still highly appreciated.

The need of a new Maserati Gran Turismo comes after the company`s grasp of repositioning its high rank on the market. This comes after other models have been well-received on the market. The Maserati Alfieri might first be launched wearing a coupe version, while the convertible will shortly follow. Prices for the model will start from 75,000 euros.

The report from Autocar is also backed by the Maserati UK marketing director James Cowad, who stated that the Maserati Alfieri will actually bring together everything valuable that the carmaker has achieved so far.

In terms of performance, the Maserati Alfieri will carry on the company`s legacy, as it will be also powerful, sporting first a 3.0-liter V6 turbo unit and developing 410 horsepower, while the top of the line will come with a higher 450 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque.

The Maserati Alfieri will compete against top predators like the Mercedes-AMG GT, the Porsche 911 or the Jaguar F-Type. More details will be announced later on.

The forthcoming Maserati Levante SUV was long rumored, the model borrowing some design cues taken from the Maserati Ghibli, which makes it pretty odd, I might add.

At a closer look, we might also find some new wheel arches and suspensions or the raised roof which will make it stand out from the crowd.

Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly the platform that it will stand on, or what drivetrain it will use, but rumors state that it would come with an all-wheel drive layout.

In terms of performance, we can only rely on some speculations from last year, stating that the new Maserati Levante SUV will come with an engine lineup, starting with the smaller 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 unit, from the Ghibli, or the newly V8 twin-turbo that will equip the Quattroporte in 2015.

The upcoming Levante SUV will be also equipped with two diesels, like the V6 and the fresh V8 diesel that equips the future Fiat generation models.
