In a press conference, McLaren’s boss spoke about the headquarter acquisition and the sale to GNL. The real estate investment company specializes in sell-and leaseback deals to single tenants.

The site, which spans 840,000 square feet began construction in 1998. The historic premises include McLaren’s headquarters, car plant, and wind tunnel. McLaren was initially hoping to muster 200 million British pounds from the sale but they fell short of the target.

The British automaker began its search for a potential buyer last September. The move has been seen as a way to bring in finances following the effects of the pandemic. During the lockdown season, the manufacturing plant was temporarily closed, global car sales figures plummeted and the 2020 F1 season was delayed. The company saw it difficult to raise revenues.

By May 2020, McLaren laid down 1,200 workers from its applied, automotive, and racing division. That’s more than a quarter of their entire workforce. The brand also sought a £150m loan from the National Bank of Bahrain and looked to borrow £275m more against its classic car collection and its working facilities.

McLaren is expected to vacate its premises by the end of May 2021.

This would be a highly-technologized hybrid car, standing on a completely new platform and equipped with a powerful powertrain under the hood. It will be also built entirely from carbon fiber components, being extremely lightweight and increasing its performance.

The McLaren Hyper-GT BP23 recently popped-up online in a new teaser image, revealing itself with extremely advanced aerodynamics and ultra-futuristic design, which previews “the most powerful and aerodynamic road-going McLaren” ever built.

Speaking about performance, the new Hyper-GT BP23 will be a highly-advanced supercar built in collaboration with McLaren Special Operations, also promising to become a “luxurious three-seat car with hybrid powertrain.”

Mike Flewett, McLaren CEO, has also declared in a recent interview that the model is going to come with a powerful powertrain:

“For us, it`s all about attributes. If we can get the performance, it doesn’t matter if it`s 12 or 10 or eight or six. We`re not wedded to cylinder count, but we are wedded very much to performance and excitement.”

From what he hinted at, the McLaren Hyper-GT BP23 will be using a high-performance battery and powerful electric motor, adding a new six-cylinder engine that the company and MSO are already working on right now.

Once it will emerge on the market sometime in 2019, the supercar will be built in a limited-run of just 106 units, with McLaren choosing its own customers. Each model will cost £2 million.

Now we have the pleasure of seeing it officially introduced at the most important auto show of the year, with the carmaker also launching a video presentation which highlights its exterior and interior details.

As you probably found out from a previous post around a week ago, the 2018 McLaren 72-S is the official replacement of the 650S, the new supercar coming with an improved design, new engine and power under the hood and some new tweaks inside the cabin.

The all-new McLaren 720S features an extremely bold design, with sharp lines and aggressive features. The most important characteristics of the supercar`s body style represent its huge glass roof and glass which are incorporated into the upper section of the dihedral doors.

Other important highlights at the exterior are the thinner and more aggressive rear LEDs and brake calipers with ceramic discs, which will definitely be of help whenever heavy breaking would be needed in tight corners.

Also, the engine compartment is integrated into the roof section, allowing the air to be channeled through an active spoiler and rear valance. Also, the entire rear end also reminds us of the F1 supercar released back in the 90s, thanks to the shape design lines.

Inside, the cabin is tweaked with leather upholstery and machined aluminum, folding instrument panel, new infotainment system, and so on.

Under the hood, the 2018 McLaren 720S now features a brand-new 4.0-liter with 720 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque, allowing a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a mind-blowing 2.9 seconds, while the 0 to 200 km/h is done in 7.8 seconds. The top speed is also set at 341 km/h.

And we have seen a lot of MSO`s McLarens coming with aftermarket tweaks and upgrade performance, which make them even more special.

These spy shots with the McLaren 675LT Spider are the standing proof that the model is in its final tests before being released on the market next year.

As we can depict from the spy shots, the McLaren 675LT Spider will be based on its coupe sibling, but will come with its own features, like stiffer springs, updated ESC system, recalibrated seven-speed SSG transmission, and a few more.

Under the hood, the spider will share the same upgraded 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, with 675 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, meaning that it will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, at a topping of 330 km/h.

The supercar is also expected to shed some weight off, around 100 kg, which will place it above the 650s Spider.

Thus, according to a report from Autocar online auto publication, McLaren is ready to offer as well a 570S GT4, that would compete against the aforementioned models in the racing category. The company plans to build only 500 units with a starting price of £259,500 each. The McLaren 675LT stands out thanks to the 3.8-liter V8 engine that now delivers 675 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, enough for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2,9 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h.

The new model is based on the McLaren 650S Coupe but these performance tweaks make it a tad faster. As its name suggests (Long Tail), the new model has a long tail body similar to the F1 GTR Long Tail model from 1997.

McLaren also fitted the car with a revised suspension, an improved electronic stability control system and a reworked seven-speed transmission.

You can add a titanium roll hoop with four-point harnesses and a fire extinguisher for extra 5,090, optional equipment that comes under the McLaren Club Sport kit name. The new McLaren 675LT will go on sale starting this summer, namely in July.
