A while back, Volkswagen came up with the small city car they dubbed Up!. And funny name aside, the car performed quite well and provided low costs of purchase and running, while keeping size down.
Now, with all the alternative fuels hype, the German car maker decided to build an electric variant of the Up!, called the e-up!.
While on paper it seemed like a dream, once the prices were released, it firmly planted us with our feet on the ground. Volkswagen has confirmed a starting price for their e-up! at 26.900 EUR, with the battery included.
Using the mentioned power source, the Volkswagen E-up! will manage up to 82 Hp and 210 Nm of torque. To translate that into acceleration, the vehicle will get to 100 km/h in 12.4 seconds. Top speed will run around the 130 km/h mark and the max range on a single charge is around 160 km.
Considering that its price is about 2.5 times greater that the gasoline burning version, it is a blessing the the small electric Volkswagen will be tax exempt and cost only 3 EUR to travel 100 km.
