To fight back the Western infusion, China had to start releasing its very own product. And what a product it is. It is the Geely automaker which is now producing new models that would compete the likes of those from the German manufacturers, and not only.

Especially aimed for the electric crossover market, the new 2019 Geely Emgrand GSe electric is definitely going to be a real deal for other important electric brands. It comes with an exclusive design and new technology suit, all for a very competitive price. Speaking of which, the model will be launched in China on June 9 and will have a price tag of around 110,000 YUAN which is the equivalent of $17,135 at today`s current rates.

Once available on the market, the new 2019 Geely Emgrand GSe will be offered with a choice of five exterior colours, such as Sapphire Blue, Glass Orange, Amber Gold, Ice Crystal or Mars Red. There are also some new visuals than enhance its looks.

We are dealing here with new LED headlights, panoramic sun-roof, updated front bumper with closed grille, new wheels and a couple more on the sides. Inside, the cabin is now available with air-freshening system, wireless charging, voice control and much more.

As for the drivetrain under the hood, the model offers a very cheap yet competitive alternative for the western competitors. There is a 160 horsepower electric motor working in tandem with a lithium-ion battery pack which weighs around 380 kg and provides a range of an impressive 350 km in between charges. However, if you constantly drive at 6 km/h, you will come up with a range of 460 km.

If we take a look at this car, we wouldn`t say it is in fact a genuine Chinese vehicle, bearing distinctive styling cues and great looking interior.

The body style of the Geely GC9 is looking classy, as it has been mainly designed under the close supervising of Peter Horbury, the former design chief from Volvo.

However, originality is the final word given for the exterior of the Geely GC9, which bears some distinctive lines, while inside, the cabin has also received new high-quality materials and a lot of interesting gizmos.

Having a look under the hood, we could see a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated, a 1.8-liter turbocharged, as well as the top of the line 3.5-liter V6 unit, all hooked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

No details were yet revealed about the car`s performance, but we will definitely learn more next week.

The headline is that the Geely brand will be dissolved by 2012 but things aren’t that simple. This move isn’t one to liquidate but it is a rather bold marketing attempt for a Chinese company.

Essentially what they will be doing is killing of the big name, in order to help the smaller brands they own develop and gain sales at a faster rate. While the big name, which is associated with rather poor quality products, mostly the tightest of budget options fades away, the other brands which feature better pedigree and product image will be better received by the public.

Either way, this will certainly benefit the companies they own namely Gleagle, Emgrand, Englon and, perhaps most importantly, Volvo.

If the later may be a familiar sound, the others need a bit of explaining. Gleagle, is short version of Global Eagle, and is the automakers global brand, while Emgrand offers luxury options. To make it easier think Toyota and Lexus. Englon on the other hand is a bit peculiar, while you’ve probably never heard of them you’ve almost certainly heard about the cars they make as the company is responsable for the latest line of London taxis.

As the Geely brand dissolves, the company will focus on assisting their existing dealerships achieve greater levels of profitability and service. Also, they will begin to increase the number of Emgrand dealerships from 200 up to 250.

This contract is to help both companies to a great extend as Ford will be able to free up quite a sum of money that is tied in assets in order to help itself out of the automotive crisis while at the same time bringing access to new technology for Geely.

As Volvo’s buyer, Geely is Chinas tenth largest automotive manufacturer and this acquisition will help it enormously in competing with the Great Republics state owned companies. The biggest plan for Volvo in China is the building of a new plant there and the introduction of the XC90 to the market.

As this deal is set to take a long period of time, as often the way is with such large purchases, today the meeting between Geely Chairman Li Shufu, Volvo Cars CEO Stephen Odell and Ford CFO Lewis Booth is purposed in reaching an agreement on the stock purchase details.

Ever since Ford announced that it preferred the bid of the Chinese car maker, back in October last year, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the event in the form of Volvo employees being kept in the dark on the details, the general public considering Volvo will no longer be the tradition car maker it is and other media consideration.

More details on Volvos sale, and Chinas biggest overseas car deal, to be announced at a press conference held in Gothenburg.
