Amongst the most exquisite models to be shown at Monterey Car Week this weekend is a hardcore version of the Koenigsegg Agera, called the XS, a special supercar soon to receive the homologation for the US roads.

As we can depict from the pictures, the Koenigsegg Agera XS is standing out from the crowd with the “Karosserie” body kit, all wrapped in the diamond-dust metallic paint and complemented by unique features like the massive rear wing, the same displayed on the One:1 megacar, which provides more aerodynamics at top speed.

Inside, the cabin is also special with the Alcantara upholstery with bright orange contrasting, carbon fiber center console and other high-end materials that make it extremely luxurious and sportier at the same time.

The model is also fast, and that because it shed off enough weight to make it reach only 1,349 kg. This makes it around 100 kg more lightweight than the standard Agera.

Speaking about performance, the Koenigsegg Agera XS packs a massive 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, with whopping 865 kW and 1,280 Nm of torque, the power being sent to the rear axle via an E-differential and a CIMA seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. As for the performance figures, the carmaker is keeping them secret for the moment.

We are not sure how much it will cost, but given the fact that this one will also be a limited edition, it will surely be a real expensive lad. More details will be known this weekend at the US event.

The Koenigsegg One:1`s latest attempt a couple of days ago to break the lap record resulted in an exciting crash at the Ring, while tackling the Foxhole bend. The hypercar then flipped-over the guard rail and caught fire while ending on the grass near the track.

As we can depict from the video below, also launched on YouTube, the Koenigsegg One:1 is beyond recognition, but fortunately for the driver, there weren’t any significant injuries.

Regarding the whole incident, Koenigsegg has also issued a statement:

“Koenigsegg Automotive AB can confirm reports online that a Koenigsegg One:1 was involved in a crash during testing as part of Industry Pool at the Nurburgring on Monday, 18 July. The driver was taken to hospital as per standard procedures in such situations and was released the same afternoon. Koenigsegg has participated in Industry Pool testing for a week in each of the last two months, working primarily on vehicle setups both for ongoing vehicle development and for an attempt at a Nurburgring lap record at some time in the future. Our primary concern is always driver safety and any testing is structured and conducted accordingly. This incident is confirmation of just how difficult it is to drive at this level on the world’s ultimate proving ground. Obviously we are dismayed with this development but pleased that our safety systems worked as designed to protect our driver.”

As a reminder, Koenigsegg launched the One:1 hypercar at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the model being considered one of the most powerful in the world, coming with a 5.0-liter aluminum twin-turbocharged V8 engine, developing a massive 1,341 horsepower and whopping 1,371 Nm-of torque.

We’ve seen it first exactly one year ago, as a concept car. Now, after over 3.000 changes, it’s ready to enter the production. What makes it be different? Mainly, the Koenigsegg Direct Drive, a patented technology which eliminates the gearbox and all its problems: mechanical losses, complexity and weight. Thanks to this system, the Megacar’s dry weight is only 1470 kg! I mean…it weighs the same as a Hyundai i40! The concept of the Direct Drive technology uses a clutch-slip system, based on a hydraulic coupling that converts the torque sent at the wheels. It means that the engine will rev to gain power, creating the sensation of downshifting, while the wheels receive the perfect amount of torque. However, the lack of gears doesn’t eliminate the shifting paddles at the steering wheel: the left one enhances the regenerative braking effect and the right one “downshifts”, by activating the hydraulic coupling.

Another exceptional feature is the battery pack. Because yes, the Regera is a hybrid Megacar (I try to get used to this word). It’s the highest voltage battery-pack ever used in a production car: 800V. Its capacity is 4.5 kWh and it’s also the highest cooling capacity battery found on a car. If you think it should weigh a lot, don’t: the Formula 1 technology makes it weigh only 90kg. That doesn’t mean a thing if we don’t mention that it helps Regera accelerating from 0 to 300 km/h in 10.9 seconds. God, I can’t wait to see a drag race between Chiron and Regera!

The last phrase leads us to the most important feature of a Megacar (finally, I’m used to this notion): the performance. The hybrid powertrain develops over 1500 hp and over 2000Nm! That’s insane! It accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, but that’s irrelevant. What really matters is that 200 km/h are reaches in 6.6 seconds, 300 km/h in 10.9 seconds and 400 km/h in a mind-blowing 20 seconds! Even more interesting, the 150-250 km/h acceleration is 3.9 seconds, meaning it beats the 0-100 time of probably 80% of the supercars. We’ll get more data from Koenigsegg in the coming days. Meanwhile, if you want to admire the Regera, it’s waiting for you at Geneva.

But that didn’t stop different rendering artists and designers to portrait the extraordinary Agera hypercar in different body styles. It is also the case of the famous Theophilus Chin, which recently launched a rendering with the Koenigsegg Agera Spider.

The rendering is just a simple imagery exercise, revealing the model with a reshaped and more aggressive body design, complemented by the Grey metallic paintjob with black stripes flowing on the hood and going all the way to the rear end.

As a reminder, the Koenigsegg Agera is the official replacement of the CCX / CCXR model, the hypercar being designed by the owner of the car himself, Christian von Koenigsegg, offering a two-door targa top body style and a rear-wheel drive configuration.

Under the hood, the standard Koenigsegg Agera is equipped with a huge 5.0-liter V8 twin turbo unit, developing 927 horsepower, while the Agera R will go a huge 1,124 horsepower. Finally, the Agera S will produce 1,016 horsepower, all versions coming equipped with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

The Nurburgring might be considered one of the world`s most demanding racetrack and the ”Green Hell” was there to be professionally tested.

Sadly enough, during the crash, the two drivers inside the Keonigsegg Agera R were injured enough during the test, as the car has severely crashed into the security barriers, next to the sharp turned, called Tiergarten.

Fortunately, an ambulance rushed the two drivers to the nearest hospital, for immediate proper care.

According to some eyewitnesses, the driver seemed to have lost control of the car, by not braking in time while reaching the tight bend, with the sports car`s brake system to eventually fail.

The Koenigsegg Agera R was thus severely damaged due to high speed, with the racetrack to be shut down for around 90 minutes, needed to clear the debris.

Since the Koenigsegg has been under continuous changes, there are little known about the sports car`s performance and technology.

The Swedish company has recently managed to unveil its super force car One:1 to shatter the world record owned by Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

The Koenigsegg One:1 sports a carbon fiber wheels, a technology just being put to the test, with 19-inches, all wrapped in Michelin Cup Tires, covering the 397 mm front power assisted ventilated ceramic discs.

The Koenigsegg One:1 also comes with some updated rear triplex suspension, also with carbon fiber bevel springs and active shock absorbers.

Yet, the most important about the car is its engine under the hood, which is a 5.0-liter aluminum V8, developing a master 1,341 horsepower and 1,371 Nm of torque, available at 6,000 rpm.

The Koenigsegg One:1 has a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and electronic differential. The supersonic car springs from 0 to 400 km/h in a top 20 seconds with 10 seconds around stopping sequences.

But the Geneva Motor Show, which is just a milestone away, will reveal more about the car`a other features and pricing.
