It’s been 50 years since the first Shelby GT350-H emerged on the streets. Back in 1966, Carroll Shelby and Hertz offered the possibility of renting V8 Mustangs to almost anyone who couldn’t afford to buy one. Ten years ago, they repeated the story, with a second generation of black-and-gold livery Mustang model, which was presented at NYAS in 2006. Today, the three big American names presented an homage to the original model, by showing the official photos of the GT-H. So, if you travel to US, you could rent one of the 140 items from the airport as a part of the “Hertz Adrenaline Collection”. They will be available starting with the Memorial Day weekend, but the daily rate hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The base model is a 2016 Mustang GT, painted in the typical Shelby-Hertz scheme: black paint and gold stripes. Then, Shelby added a body kit, including a carbon-fiber front splitter, polycarbonate hood vents, upper and lower radiator grille, rear spoiler and many emblems placed in key-points. Onboard, the floor mats, the sill plates and the headrests are personalized with Shelby logo. Same story in the engine bay, where a Shelby GT-H engine plaque and a similarly-personalized engine cap kit add personality.

But this special version also offers improved performance. The V8, 5.0-liter engine is helped by a proper cat-back performance exhaust to reach an even throatyer sound. The Ford Racing Handling Pack takes care that all the power goes straight to the ground. It contains lower springs, re-tuned dampers, sway bars and 19 inch aluminum wheels with high performance Michelin tires. If you want to see it before rent it, be sure to visit the 2016 New York Auto Show, where it will be officially unveiled.

Pretty much all that comes from Shelby nowadays is a coveted jewel, and since most are limited numbers, people have to fight for them. There are also those that come as one off cars, usually concepts and prototypes. And now that we are speaking about them, anyone interested in them now has a rare chance at 11 of them.

Shelby in changing location, and part of the general cleaning involves Shelby selling off these extra vehicles. If we are to mention a few highlights of the lineup to be sold, we would have to mention a Shelby Super Snake prototype, a concept of the Shelby Raptor, a 2011 GTS concept or a 2013 Focus Concept.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the FIA Cobra and Shelby is planning to introduce an anniversary edition Cobra CSX7000.

Limited to 50 units, the Shelby Cobra CSX7000 will come with two choices for the body material, either fiberglass or aluminium. The two also come with separate price tags, bringing in $94.995 or $159.995, respectively. So what do you get for this kind of money? Well, you sure as hell don’t get an engine.

That is right, despite the high price tag, the Shelby Cobra CSX7000 will be delivered as a rolling chassis, leaving it to owners to install proper internal combustion motivation (or not). What you do get for this money, though, is quite nice, as the car sports a Viking Blue paint with Arctic White stripes and custom badges. The exhaust is placed on the lateral of the car and custom 15 inch wheels were fitted.

It’s recent unveiling seemed to come and go but trust me on this one, this hypercar is here to stay.

First proof of its ability to impact the market rather than simply be a concept some of us occasionally remember in nostalgia is what the SSC Tatuara achieved in Dubai.

The Dubai Motor Show has only just left and even though it may be a rather small event in relation to the rest of the international shows but the sums shifted around it are by no means small.

The middle eastern buyers were simply won over by the SSC Tuatara. Despite a price tag of 1.3 million dollars each, the American built hypercar sold.

And it sold big, the Dubai show attenders bought ten of them, making for a total sales figure of 13 million dollars. Even when talking about oil money, that’s quite the hefty sum.

The success of the SSC Tatuara is also to be noted, particularly as more established brands such as Lamborghini sold just 14 units.

It is more than the Shelby Supercars Tatuara but when the figures are compared, the much more popular and considerably cheaper Aventador barely manages a total sales figure of no more than 5.3 million.

That’s less than half the money of the 275 mph claimed Shelby hypercar.

And by that I mean the age group considerations, no real sports car manufacturer can claim to be cool when all their cars are driven by retirees.

Shelby president John Luft came forward with a few statistics on the owners of the cars that roll out of his company’s gates.

It seems like the average buyer is well past half of century of life and that isn’t the sort of statistic you don’t do stuff about so here’s Shelby’s plan to solve their problem.

The entry level aftermarket Shelby offering for the Ford Mustang, the thing called the Shelby GTS.

As always the Shelby GTS will continue to be the entry level package, only this time it will be simpler and considerably cheaper.

With prices starting at $9.995 on top of the acquisition of the Shelby GTS together with a new Mustang shouldn’t cost more $32.000 for the V6 setup.

That’s reasonably low, especially considering the fact taht you get a great looking pony car with some proper heritage tuning from Shelby.

A Ford Racing handling pack, Borla exhaust system, Baer brakes is all you get in terms of performance with the new front end, go faster stripes and a lot of badging being what you’re really paying for.

When this will happen isn’t certain, but to be honest it doesn’t really matter that much. What does matter is the way it looks and the technology it packs when coming to terms which such a quest.

Starting with the looks I have to say that while it does look striking it doesn’t fit my taste that much for one simple reason. I don’t find it to be original. I know the man behind this design is the famous Jason Castriota but I look at it and find it’s not that much of a new car as it is a mix between the man’s older design the Maserati Birdcage Concept and the Mig-U1 kit for the Ferrari Enzo.

That might be just me but I don’t think that for a car that’s set to be a new world standard the looks should be somewhat better than just futuristic. That’s why the McLaren F1 lives on as a design concept and that’s why the Bugatti Veyron won’t lose it’s stance once times goes by.

Either way, looks aren’t as important, the specs of the 2011 SSC Ultimate Aero II are far more interesting. Were talking a massive 6.8 liter V8 engine with equally massive twin turbochargers that is set to have a redline somewhere in the 9000 rpm area. Oh by the way, before that redline is reached the power output reaches 1350 horsepower.

Passing by this figure astonishing as it is, there’s one that’s even better. The 2011 SSC Ultimate Aero II weighs nearly 2.600 pounds which makes for a power to weight ratio that’s almost twice that of the Veyron. Just saying that sort of send chills down my back.

If these figures are accurate and this Shelby creation will hit the test route it should reach it’s top speed of 275 mph but somehow I’m still not fascinated by it.

One of the recent figures released on it makes for fun reading, the price set for the 2011 model year of the SSC Ultimate Aero II hover around the 1 million dollars mark.
