The all-new 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia needs no presentation, the model becoming the carmaker`s last flagship to take on the big boys from the big league. Now, the entire lineup has landed on Australian soil, with prices to be revealed as well.

The cheapest version is the Giulia 2.0t with a price tag of AUD 59,895, shortly followed by the Giulia Super 2.0t with AUD 64,195. Next in kin is the Giulia Super 2.2d available at AUD 65,895, while the Giulia Veloce 2.0t is priced at AUD 71,895. Finally, the top of the line QV, the direct competitor of the BMW M3 can also be had at a whopping AUD 143,900.

Each version comes with its own styling and interior features, with different powertrains to differentiate them from one another.

However, there are standard features equipping all variants, like bi-xenon headlights, 8.8-inch touchscreen interface with 3D satellite navigation, digital radio, leather upholstery, keyless entry and start, rear-view camera, cruise control, adding a plethora of safety features as well.

In the engine department, the first two variants are equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, with 147 kW and 330 Nm of torque, both hooked to a high-performance eight-speed automatic transmission. The entry level Giulia sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, while the Super level is faster, allowing 6.1 seconds.

The Super variant also comes with a higher engine in the form of a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder with 132 kW and 450 Nm of torque. This means that the 100 km/h sprint is done in 7.1 seconds, while the fuel-consumption has an average of 4.2L / 100 km.

The Veloce version packs a 2.0-liter petrol turbocharged engine, developing 206 kW and 400 Nm of torque, needing just 5.7 seconds for the 0 100 km/h sprint. The fuel-consumption is also set at 6.1L/100 km.

Finally, the top of the line Giulia QV, which has proved its exquisite performance in front of its direct competitor, the BMW M3, is equipped with the famous 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, with impressive 375 kW and 600 Nm of torque. The sprint is also done in 3.9 seconds. Considering the performance figure, the model burns out 8.2 L for every 100 km.

Alfa Romeo Italian carmaker unveiled the gorgeous Stelvio SUV at the 2017 NAIAS, in Detroit, the model taking its inspiration from the high-end Giulia lineup, adding as well impressive performance under the hood.

Even if it is not as powerful as the Giulia`s top of the line QV, the Stelvio is an exceptional SUV, especially since it was recently launched with the First Edition package, now available in the pre-ordering phase. The model costs at least €57,300 and can be had with a plethora of features both at the exterior as well as inside.

For that money you could get the one-off 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, painted brake calipers or the BI-Xenon headlamps, while the interior is also offered with chrome window frame, black full grain leather on the seats, heated and electrically adjustable seats, adding as well aluminum shift paddles, wood trim, and standard 8.8-inch infotainment display.

Besides the one-off features inside, the model is also available with a wide suite of safety features, including Forward Collision Warning with Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, back-up camera and much more.

In the engine department, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio First Edition is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo flat-four pot, developing 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque, being sent to all wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. This allows a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a good 5.7 seconds.

Even if the Italian based carmaker has been and still is very successful with the new Alfa Romeo Giulia in all its versions, it seems that it will receive a new engine, in the shape of a 2.0-liter TBi with 257 kW.

The news surfaced after Dutch tuning Squadra was browsing Fiat Chrysler`s website and accidentally found out the table below with the new components for the Giulia`s braking system.

Once discovered that, the tuning company has declared on its Facebook page:

“We are not really intended to spread new facts [about the Alfa Romeo Giulia]. But this is something we found remarkable. Surfing on the parts site of the Alfa Giulia, we stumbled upon brake discs for the 280PS model, but also for a Giulia 2.0 TBi with 350PS (257kW).”

Concerning the tuning`s discovery, Alfa Romeo has not yet commented on that matter, but if this proves to be true, the new engine is going to be the most powerful ever seen underneath the Giulia.

So far, the most powerful engine from Alfa Romeo is the 2.0-liter with 205 kW and 470 Nm of torque GME T4, but that would be a thing of a past once the new engine breaks cover sometimes next year.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia will be officially introduced in dealerships worldwide next year, with the model reaching Australian market in February. As for the top of the line QV, the model has already arrived in the Land Down Under, being currently displayed at the carmaker`s showroom in Melbourne.

Following the announcement of the all-new Alfa Giulia in the United States, the Italian based carmaker has also introduced the entire fleet in Australia as well, with four versions to be available.

If in the United States there are only three variants available at the moment – the standard Giulia, Ti and the top of the line QV – in the Land Down Under, the same Giulia is now offered in four trims – Giulia, Super, Veloce and the same topper Quadrifoglio. Prices for all will be announced prior to the car`s arrival in dealerships, next February.

In Australia, all variants will be offered with standard features, yet each one will gradually add more goodies, depending on the type of packages available.

The entry-level 2017 Giulia comes with bi-xenon headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, automatic wipers, satellite navigation, reverse camera, keyless entry and so on, while the engine comprises a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four with 147 kW and 330 Nm of torque. This allows a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.

On the other hand, the mid-level Giulia Super adds more features, such as new interior tweaks, including heated steering wheel, eight-way adjustable driver`s seat or active cruise control. Under the hood, this particular variant is equipped with the same 2.0-liter turbo engine with 147 kW and 330 Nm of torque, adding as well a flat-four turbo diesel pot, with 132 kW and 450 Nm of torque.

Next, the Veloce, stands out from the crowd with 19-inch alloys and red brake calipers, adding custom Alfa DFC adjustable suspension system, limited-slip differential and new braking system, aluminum inserts inside, sport leather seats and so forth. The engine comprises a 2.0-liter turbo flat-four with 206 kW and 400 Nm of torque.

Finally, the top of the line 2017 Giulia QV needs no presentation, the high-end variant literally blowing away its direct competitor, the BMW M3, with an impressive carbon fiber exterior and interior, and worthy performance under the hood. We are looking here at a Ferrari-powered 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, with whopping 375 kW and 600 Nm of torque, enough to deliver a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, at a topping of 307 km/h.

The 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show has finally opened its gates, with Alfa Romeo revealing their first and long-expected Stelvio SUV range, which will reach the market shortly after the event.

Once arriving in Europe and the US and lately on other continents, worldwide as the main competitor of the X5 M, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV will be equipped with an interesting choice of engines, also found on the Giulia range. There are three versions to be offered: the standard Stelvio, the mid-level Ti as well as the top of the line Stelvio QV.

The most potent one is the Stelvio Quadrofiglio, meaning that it will pack a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, the same one from the topper Giulia QV. The power stands at 375 kW and 600 Nm of torque, enough to deliver a sprint in around 4.0 seconds, at a top of speed of 285 km/h.

The Stelvio will be also offered with an entry-level variant and a mid Ti, both packing a 2.0-liter turbo with 210 kW and 415 Nm of torque. Besides these three engines, we also expect some diesels with power configurations according to the destined markets.

From a visual standpoint, as we can depict from the photos, the Stelvio is looking extremely aggressive, thanks to the same design lines found on the Giulia lineup as well.

We could depict the Alfa`s inverted triangular grille with aggressive headlights, muscular lines all around, with different particularities, according to each version involved. The QV for instance is easily distinguished from the rest with extremely wide alloy wheels, adding a torque-vectoring rear differential, sport suspension as well as the Brembo carbon-fiber ceramic brakes. Inside, the QV comes with carbon-fiber Recaro seats, red stitching, 8.8-inch central infotainment display, 900-watt Harman Kardon audion system with 14 speakers, and much more.

In case you are less fancy and want the entry-level variant or the Ti, you get the 6.5-liter infotainment system, Lusso or sport packages, 18-inch alloys and an all-wheel drive system.

We have seen famous Top Gear journalist Chris Harris test driving different hot models from top carmakers, but perhaps one of the standout shows on the track is this one seen here with the journalist behind the one-and-only Alfa Romeo Giulia QV.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia QV was publicly unveiled about four months ago, but it was until recently that the carmaker decided on the kind of power it would put underneath the skin. And the results are best described in the 8 minute video.

I mean, we are dealing here with the most potent competitor that the BMW M3 and M4 have ever had, the Italian flagship managing to outrun the German cars from every possible angle: it has an extremely aggressive attitude, handles well and packs mind-blowing power for a sedan.

And by that I get to hear the wild engine roar of massive 503 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque, all squeezed from a 2.9-liter twin engine, with a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h done in 3.9 seconds. The power is sent to the wheels via a manual or an optional eight-speed automatic transmission. This way, it beats up the M3 and M4 at their own game.

I am not going to spoil all the fun and let you drive the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV, but you`ll be sitting on the passenger`s seat and let Chris Harris take care of the situation. After all, it`s a big men`s game. Push the play button and enjoy the video!

From 18th to 20th of March, the Milano AutoClassica show will be the host of some interesting classic cars. Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Abarth play at home, therefore they’ll exhibit some of their finest pieces.

Alfa Romeo chose to build a bridge between the past and the future. Therefore, they’ll bring four sporty saloons, symbolizing that they founded this category of cars: an Alfa 1900 from 1950, one Giulia TI Super from 1963, an Alfetta made in 1972 and a powerful 75 Turbo Evoluzione IMSA from 1988. The past-future link is made by the presence of the Giulia Quadrifoglio, in an attempt to prove that “meccanica delle emozioni” isn’t gone.

The 1900 was the first Alfa model built on a production line. It featured a highly dynamic monocoque body, bringing the sports-class handling into the saloon segment. Thanks to its native qualities, it was a successful racer: it grabbed the first place in class at the Mexican Carrera Panamericana race, in 1954 and has been chose to equip the Italian State Police in the high performance fleet, thanks to the 115 hp engine and its 180 km/h top speed. At it’s retirement in 1959, it was the fastest family car on the market and it had been sold in over 17.300 units.

The second model to be exhibited at AutoClasica is the 1963 Giulia TI Super. Its design was unique for its time, with a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.34! It was advertised as the car “designed by the wind”. Its outstanding design was equaled by its technical innovations: it was the first mass-production car equipped with a five-speed gearbox and one of the first using what will become a survival cell. The TI Super was a ready-to-race version, which produced 112 hp and topped 190 km/h. It had won the 1963 Tour de France Auto and was the first Alfa to show the Quadrifoglio cloverleaf emblem on its body panels. Until the end of its production, over 1.000.000 Giulia had been built and the rarest version is the TI Super, with only 501 units produced!

Moving up to 1972, we find the best known Alfa Romeo saloon ever made. The Alfetta had been unveiled by the five-time F1 World Champion, Juan Manuel Fangio. It came 20 years after the 1900’s debut, being the most complex saloon of that time. The 1779 cc front-mounted engine was paired with a rear-placed transaxle transmission, while the De Dion rear suspension derived directly from the Fangio’s F1 world-champion single-seater. From 1980, it became the first car ever that used the variable valve timing, a technology patented by the Alfa Romeo and used on large scale today. The success was sensational: the model occupied 40% of the segment’s sales, with 476.000 units built until 1984!

Finally, the beast: an year later, the Alfa 75 marked the brand’s 75th anniversary. It included a V6, 2.5 liter engine and shared many mechanical components with the outgoing model, Giulietta Mk2 (116). The engine range included a 2 liter, 148 hp unit, which pushed the car to 205 km/h, and the 1.8 liter turbo which, thanks to its 155 hp, helped the 75 model reach 215 km/h. It was the first engine that adopted an electric supercharging control system. At AutoClassica, Alfa Romeo will bring the racing version of the 75, called Evoluzione. It develops 335 hp and is garnished with modified aerodynamics, a wider body-kit and a massive carbon-fibre rear wing. The 75 model retired from production in 1992, totaling 387.000 units sold worldwide.

Amelia Island is a show that takes place yearly in the American island. It is the second biggest event of this kind organized in US, after the Pebble Beach. The most important part of it is the exhibition of the vintage cars, which this year is ready to welcome a great piece of history: the Alfa Romeo BT45.

If this code-name doesn’t say anything to you, probably Brabham-Alfa does. Though it’s not the very formula-one single-seater driven by Hans Joachim Stuck, it is the exactly same model. It will be the central piece of “Hans Stuck cars” category, as this year’s event is dedicated to the German driver. He raced the model back in 1977, in the US Grand Prix, in front of over 100.000 spectators. However, the car’s story begins in 1976, after the Alfa Romeo 33 TT12 have won the World Sportscar Championship. Encouraged by its success, Autodelta, which was the Alfa Romeo’s racing division, took the decision to get involved in the Formula 1 championship.

They supplied the Brabham team with the 33’s engine, which was a boxer-12 cylinder, 500 hp beast. The car retained the Martini Racing livery, but changed its color from white to red, in the honor of the Italian engine. Big names were involved in its development, including the Brabham’s owner Bernie Ecclestone and Gordon Murray, who designed the car. The monocoque has been designed around the flat engine, and its specific elements were the two periscopes which supplied the cylinders with air. The first seasons, considered as “preparatory”, brought 3 four-places. The next season started excellent, with a pole-position held for ten laps and a second place in the end of the first race. In march 1977, one of the Brabham’s drivers, Carlos Pace died in a plane crash, devastating the team. His place has been took by Stuck, who snatched the third place in two occasions. Until the end of the season, another second place has been obtained by the other driver, John Watson.

The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance started today and will be opened until Sunday, 13th of March.

It’s always a pleasure to write about an Alfa Romeo! Especially about such an elegant model like the Giulia. Yes, it’s elegant and that’s for sure, because now we know how the standard car looks. And it looks flawless!

Until Geneva, the only certain thing known about the Giulia was its top-version, called Quadrifoglio Verde. But now, we also have the classy, Italian style of the standard model. And it looks amazing! There is not even one element to disturb its perfectly drawn lines, not even one curve in excess. I even like it more than the QV version! It’s exactly as rounded as it should be and it has the ideal proportions. It’s elegant, provocative and yet so simple! God, I love this car! The interior also looks sensationally designed, with its curvy shapes and clean surfaces. Its central tunnel is very wide and high, perfectly separating the front seats while making the gear shifter looking short and sporty. A thing that I’ve never understood at Alfa Romeo is why in the back there are three headrests, while there are only two proper seats? But who cares, anyway? When you buy an Alfa, it’s a clear thing you don’t choose with your head!

So, did Alfa Romeo become all about the looks? Certainly not! The engines have always been a strong point in the Italian cars. Giulia comes with a 2.2 liter diesel engine, developing either 150 hp and 380 Nm, either 180 hp and 450 Nm. If you’re a “benzina” fan, the 2-liter turbo engine, developing 200 hp and 330 Nm@1750 rpm will do the job. There will be six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions and rear wheel drive. Nothing yet about an all-wheel drive version, but it’s possible to have one during the next year. About the top-of-the-range QV…what’s to say? Only numbers and tears of joy: V6 biturbo, 2.9 liter, 510 hp, 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top-speed of 307 km/h. QED.

The dynamics promise to be excellent, thanks to the extended use of lightweight materials, like aluminum, aluminum composite, plastic and carbon fiber. For instance, the QV version achieve a less than 3:1 kg/hp weight-to-power ratio, while the 2.2 diesel version weighs 1375 kg, which is roughly the same as Giulietta’s diesel versions. More, the weight distribution is a perfect 50:50, promising a very sporty handling.

And at the end, the best news: the Giulia will be in showroom starting with 15 April!

Now what about this beauty? I’m staring at this blue painted Alfa Romeo Disco Volante and I can’t believe how atypical and impressive it looks! Oh, and yes, this is a spoiler for Superleggera stand at Geneva Motor Show.

The Disco Volante looked amazing in any color, but this Blue Ceruleo makes my heart pump harder! It is a very limited series (it seems that seven units will be built in Milan Touring’s atelier) and each model will be individualized at the customer’s wish. In fact, its main target is the collectors who appreciate the individual design. It is based on the the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione’s technical package, including the engine and chassis. That means it comes with a muscular V8 4.7 liter naturally-aspirated engine, developing 444 hp and 480 Nm of torque. The 4C accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and its top speed is 292 km/h. It has been sold in 500 units all over the world, most of them in the US market.

The Disco Volante’s design was inspired by the 1952 model Alfa Romeo C52. They share not only the same rounded and “insensitive to wind” shape, but also the extensive use of aluminum at the chassis and the body panels. The importance of the 1952 model was perfectly illustrated by the fact that Alfa Romeo decided to celebrate the brand’s 100 anniversary with a sculpture representing the Disco Volante’s body shape. Now, we know we can admire both models at this year’s Geneva Motor Show edition.
