Smart Fortwo Cabrio doesn’t have a roof. Well, at least not a real one. It does have a thin sliding roof, but it doesn’t make much difference. It can be spread as a roof automatically in only 12 seconds, and it can also be folded back. It is available in more than one color, including blue denim, red, and black.

The Smart Fortwo Cabrio will also have a new B-pillar that is going to be thinner than the one from the previous model. And these are the only major changes the car is going to experience in terms of styling. Now, when it comes to technical details, the new Smart Fortwo Cabrio will deal with some changes here as well.

For instance, there will be two engines available in Europe, and they will both have 3 cylinders – the first one will be a 1.0-liter three-pot engine that will put out 70 Horsepower, while the second will be a 0.9-liter turbo engine with 89Horsepower (90PS).

These changes will certainly transform the Smart Fortwo Cabrio and make it 15% stronger than the previous model. And as the car has successfully passed all the safety tests required by the government, it is definitely ready to enter the market.

Of course that the company has not yet confirmed the news, but our source has announced that the Smart ForTwo Cabrio would come with rather the same body style as the present model, but coming as well with its own personality, since we are talking here about a convertible.

Inside, the Smart ForTwo Cabrio will also come with rather the same features as the base model, meaning a monochrome LCD display, power windows and a few more.

Under the hood, the SmartFor Two Cabrio will be equipped with the 999cc 3-cylinder unit, developing around 71 horsepower and 91 Nm of torque, while the higher 1.0-liter three-cylinder will also produce 60 horsepower and 70 horsepower. More details will be announced later on, as the model is set to be unveiled sometime this year.

One of these versions was confirmed to receive a Brabus treatment, and while we wait for the real thing, we can enjoy a nice rendering.

The rendering was executed by RM Design and I have to admit it looks rather well. Not only that, but from all rumors released and tidbits of information we gathered from the medias, the rendering also looks quite close to the real thing. And if the end product won’t look like this, it would be a shame.

As expected, the redesigned rear bumper was fitted with dual exhausts. Other than that, the rendering doesn’t really offer any other clues. Most educated guesses, though, point toward a new suspensions and an upgraded engine that might produce as much as 120 Hp.

It seems that, in the years to come, the Smart ForTwo, as well as the ForFour, will be getting alternative versions.

First off, Smart CEO, Annette Winkler stated that the Smart roadster will remain dead for the foreseeable future, but other versions are planned to make the small city car a bit more diverse. They are planning an electric version of the ForTwo, as well as a Cabrio and a Brabus version.

The ForFour is going to receive only one other version, namely the Cabrio, but the US market might get a stretched version of it. This relates to the recently patented name ForMore. The standard version of the 2015 ForFour will be kept off this market.

And with the official launch closing in, the Smart has started making its appearance in photos. This one was taken on the streets of Dubai, where Mercedes is testing it alongside two other models. Unfortunately, it is still under heavy camouflage, and we can’t really make out that much.

While the looks still elude us for now, we do know some tech data on the 2015 Smart ForTwo. First off, we know it will borrow heavily from the Renault Twingo, with which it shares 70 percent of components. Engine options are comprised of the 3 cylinder 1.0 liter SCe engine and a 3 cylinder 0.9 liter TCe turbocharged unit.

Along with these updated versions, the Smart manufacturer has high hopes concerning the future of the two versions.

This is why the automaker has teased the two versions in a video, promoting the Fortwo and the Forfour in Sweden, right before the prototypes will have entered the market.

The Smart Fortwo and the Forfour share the same rear-engine, coming of course with rear-wheel drive system, also found on the Renault Twingo in Europe.

As we can see in the video, the two versions might appear as being little, even smaller than the present models. And bear in mind that this is no illusion.

Both Fortwo and Forfour are expected to be launched in their dealerships at the end of the year, as the chief engineer in the video also confirms.

However, the two models will see the light of day separately, as the Fortwo will come to the US, while the Forfour is reportedly to remain in Europe.

And in a similar fashion to other small city cars, the more variation to it, the better. To this end, a whole range of limited and special editions were launched, each with its own unique twist.

Still, we have to remember that the Smart ForTwo is already an aging car, which is set to finally be replaced by the next generation. But just because the ForTwo is on its last legs, it doesn’t mean there isn’t time to push out one final special edition.

Called the Smart ForTwo CityBeam, this edition brings several styling cues for the discerning customer. The general exterior color revolves around silver and matte anthracite (to be read silver), with a nice set of 15 inch alloy wheels added to it. Inside we find a new, sportier steering wheel, black leather upholstery and various other trims.

Prices for the Smart CityBeam special edition start at €14.490 and ramp up to €22.951, but considering the purpose and general reputation for this car and the fact that is almost out of production, you would have to be slightly insane to go for this rather bland iteration.
