The Suzuki Swift is renowned for its sporty
drive and handsome looks. Throw the fact it undercuts key rivals without
sacrificing equipment into the mix, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. Simply
put, it does it all for less.

Something else the Swift nails is
efficiency – on paper and out in the real world.

A case in point: The Swift has this year
won Honest John’s Real
MPG award, with the 1.0 Boosterjet model (the turbocharged one) returning
67.4mpg combined.

That’s a seriously impressive mpg rating since
it’s actually some way better than what Suzuki claims, and what the Swift
achieved in WLTP tests.

The 1.0 Boosterjet returns 51.8mpg combined according to Suzuki, which is less than the non-turbocharged 1.2 Dualjet. Honest John’s tests show this not to be the case out in the real world with the 1.0 Boosterjet being the most efficient engine of all, a refreshing change from the opposite usually being true.

But it isn’t just the 1.0 Boosterjet that’s
seriously impressive at the pumps. The fastest Suzuki Swift, the Sport, is too. Suzuki
says it’ll return up to 47.1mpg combined and that figure has been confirmed in
WLTP tests. Impressive, considering the Swift Sport’s meaty 1.4 Boosterjet
engine which kicks out 138bhp.

Key to the Suzuki Swift’s efficiency is how
light the car is. The Swift Sport weighs a paltry 975kg, and the 1.0 Boosterjet
model weighs even less. With very little weight to lug around, the engine
doesn’t have to be worked hard to get moving.

Another important aspect is the gearing.
The Swift Sport has a 6-speed manual transmission, while the 1.0 Boosterjet has
a 5-speed manual gearbox. The sixth and fifth cogs are long to keep the revs
right down at motorway speeds. First and second are short for acceleration.
Third gear is where it’s at – this is long, enabling for flexible acceleration
at low speeds without using too much fuel.

And that efficiency doesn’t come at the
expense of the fun driving experience, with the Swift being eager to be driven
and driven fast. It handles well and the adjustable driving position ensures you’re
always comfortable on the go.

SZ5 models also come with all the kit you
want, like satellite navigation, smartphone linkage, automatic air
conditioning, keyless entry with push-button start, and adaptive cruise control
– a premium specification without the premium price.

Suzuki Australia has recently announced the introduction of the-all new 2017 Swift in the Land Down Under, the model arriving in four variants and packing plenty of technology and new engines.

We are looking here at a totally new car, standing on a new platform and featuring an exquisite design, which makes it more appealing than the previous generations.

Australian customers can opt for the entry-level GL manual which costs $15,990, or can pay $17,990 for the same variant but with a CVT and satellite navigation. The other mid-entry is the GL with the safety pack CVT and satellite navigation for $18,990, while the top of the line GLX turbo with speed-transmission comes with a total of $22,990.

Speaking of the new engines, the 2017 Suzuki Swift is equipped with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated flat-four engine in the GL manual, GL with CVT and the GL with safety pack, with power standing at 66 kW and 120 Nm of torque.

The GLX turbo, power comes from a 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder engine, with 82 kW and 160 Nm of torque. It also comes with a six-speed automatic transmission.

As for the new platform, this one is shared with the Baleno model, which makes it extremely light – this means 870 kg for the entry levels and 915 for the GLX variant.

Amongst the car`s top features we should also add Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, or six airbags, all now available in the entry-level variant. The mid-entries and the top of the line are also equipped with 7.0-inch touchscreen interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, and a wide choice of safety features.

There is no doubt that Suzuki is preparing a hot generation of the iconic Swift, as revealed by Autocar UK back in March, in what seemed to be the first pixelated images, providing a first idea on how the model will look before its arrival next year.

Now, thanks to Ferd, a famous spy Facebook page, we have another teaser image which reveals the new looks of the model, which is rather the same one as the first tipped-off images, arriving back in March.

The stylish seems to be rather the same, with the model now coming with an evolutionary design, with styling bits up front resembling the Jaguar F-Type.

The fifth-generation looks much more mature, bigger and extremely imposing, and perhaps less appealing than the previous generation.

We are looking here at a front end with a larger central grill, depicting a more aggressive attitude, adding new side intakes and sporty lip. The model has also gained new headlights which are now peeled back, while the A-pillars are now blacked-out. At the rear, the taillights provide a Vitara-like look, with sporty diffuser section also being lowered down.

As for the engine lineup under the hood, besides the already present 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated engine with 100 kW, the all-new 2017 Suzuki Swift is also rumored to come with a new 1.2-liter flat-four pot, developing 66 kW, followed by a 1.0-liter Boosterjet three-cylinder turbocharged with 82 kW, and the same also found on the Baleno. The top of the line Sport would also feature a 1.4-liter with 103 kW turbo, the very same from the Vitara Turbo.

More details are expected to arrive in early 2017, when the model will arrive on the market as the main competitor of the Ford Fiesta, Holden Barina or Volkswagen Polo.

The 2016 Paris Motor Show is just two months away, with a lot of carmakers already planning their new models in different teaser images and videos or organizing different events to announce their prototypes.

Suzuki is no different than the others and couldn’t wait for an official debut for the all-new SX4 S-Cross facelift, the model being showcased at an important event in Hungary.

As common to all facelifted version, the new compact crossover is also looking fresh in terms of visuals, the model adopting new design cues, like updated front grille and bumpers, new bonnet and restyled headlights.

Also, the headlights come with integrated DRLs, chromed grille, updated rear bumper with fresh taillights, which make it a really standout facelift.

As for the engine lineup, the new Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is likely to borrow some mills from the new Vitara, like the 1.4-liter turbo Boosterjet, with 138 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque, available with a FWD and and AWD. Other mills might come in the shape of a 1.0-liter turbo or much more potent 1.6-liter diesel.

The details list is rather scarce at the moment, but we should expect fresh info in September, at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS Concept. Sounds complicated, but it’s not: it is a sportier-looking version of the Baleno and it’s no information about a potential production version.

The RS is built on the newest platform developed by Suzuki. It means it’s quite rigid and quiet, and if it has a differently tuned suspension, it could be even interesting to drive through the twisty roads. As we’ve seen in the recent road-tests, the Baleno’s stability suffers a little on high speed curves.

The aspect is fresh, with a front end that reminds me slightly of Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The ascending lines make it look dynamic, no matter the viewing angle. The front grille dives into the headlights and continue seamlessly with the side front panel’s lines. It’s colored in dark grey, like the front and side skirts’ and the wheels. However, the complicated rims’ design, looks in my opinion more like wheel caps than like alloy wheels. The interior reveals a sober atmosphere, not too appropriate for the sporty small vehicles, which should be more pointed to young costumers. The black leather upholstery, the lack of aluminum pedals, the multimedia system and the CVT gearbox (as an option, that’s true) make the RS look more like an Executive. It’s a curious thing, coming from an exceptionally sports bike manufacturer.

However, the engine is a different story. Its three cylinders manage to squeeze an exhilarating 112hp and 175Nm of torque, thanks to the direct injection and turbo. His name, BOOSTERJET, says exact what it does: it revs happily right after 2000rpm, up to 5500rpm. Though it’s small, it feels quick (being helped by the car’s under a tonne weight) and it’s far more adapted to the RS character than the concept’s interior.

The Japanese folks at Suzuki officially announced that the new Vitara SUV has entered the production line. The company builts the new model in Hungary, at the Esztergom plant.

The first year of production will result into 70,000 Vitaras with a total of 165,000 cars to exit the gates this year. The Esztergom plant also produces models like the SX-4 S-Cross and the new Swift. The first model to be built there was the Suzuki Wagon R+, a car that was produced since 2000.

The Japanese folks at Suzuki decided to take advantage of the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon and unveil a new concept model that has been previously teased about a month ago. We talk about the Suzuki Alto Turbo RS concept, a model based on the current-gen Alto.

However, there are a lot of changes compared to the stock model, at least in terms of styling.

Suzuki Alto Turbo RS concept

At the exterior, Suzuki opted for new headlights with LED daytime running lights, 17-inch OZ alloy wheels, revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts and a roof-mounted spoiler.

Suzuki Alto Turbo RS concept

You will also notice the red accents on the spoilers, side mirrors and doors but also the RS side graphics.

Suzuki Alto Turbo RS concept

Under the hood sits a tiny 0.66-liter gasoline engine, a three-cylinder turbocharged engine to be more specific. At the interior, the Suzuki Alto Turbo RS concept has Recaro bucket seats while a retuned suspension is also fitted on this concept.

Suzuki Alto Turbo RS concept

The Suzuki Japanese carmaker has brought the long-expected 2015 Vitara at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the SUV being actually the production model of the iV-4 Concept, first unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The 2015 Suzuki Vitara is revived in terms of visuals, as it comes with a chrome radiator grille or the LED daytime running lights now fitted in the front bumper.

2015 Suzuki Vitara

Concerning the Vitara`s drivetrain, the SUV is sporting a front-wheel drive layout, the ALLGRIP all-wheel drive for the much larger SX4 S-Cross version and a few more.

2015 Suzuki Vitara

The 2015 Suzuki Vitara also comes with new engine choices under the hood, like the 1.6-liter petrol M16 unit, developing 120 horsepower and 156 Nm of torque.

2015 Suzuki Vitara

The diesel couldn’t have been missed, as the new Vitara now sports a 1.6-liter D16AA unit, churning out the same 120 horsepower but higher 320 Nm of torque, hooked to an optional 6-speed automatic.

The 2015 Suzuki Vitara will start sales somewhere in 2015, with price details to be revealed soon.
