Motoring enthusiasts beware, you will most likely not enjoy the following bit of news as it’s in relation to Lancia, a great Italian car maker that’s really down on their luck.
Their future is all about becoming rebadged Chryslers that should help the American company’s sales in Europe but their present isn’t exactly glamorous either.
For a few years now, Lancia have been all about creating luxury Fiats. To be honest, I really like the look and feel of the modern Lancia Delta and yet there’s something about it that’s wrong.
It’s perhaps the fact that it’s based on a Fiat Punto underneath and that comes with dynamic shortfalls.
The same applies for its smaller sister, the Lancia Ypsilon. This is the last car the company is going to release as what can be called a luxury Fiat.
It’s the car we see here and it’s also the car Lancia will be showing off at the Geneva Motor Show which is still mostly Italian.
The 2012 Lancia Ypsilon is a bit of a mixture between the Fiat 500 and the Alfa Romeo MiTo taking the base from the first and the powertrain from the latter.
This means that the 2012 Lancia Ypsilon will be powered by either a 1.2 liter engine with 69 horsepower, an infamous 0.9 liter TwinAir that develops 85 horsepower and topping off with a 95 pony 1.3 liter MultiJet turbodiesel.
All of these engines have seen before throughout the Fiat family but the new flex-fuel 1.2 liter LPG engine hasn’t.
As far as transmissions are concerned Lancia Ypsilon offers you a manual or a semi-automatic one with either of the previous engines.
