Who says van drivers can’t have a bit of fun? Not sure, but it seems that Ford is on a path to prove that’s not true.

Not only does the regular version of the Transit have some of the best handling characteristics of any car in it’s class it now also has a few special limited editions.
These limited editions are called Transit SportVan feature a special paint job, a raft of subtle and fun modifications and a lot of kit both as standard and as options.
The SportVan first came out in a limited run of 500 units coated in Ford’s traditional Performance Blue with white stripes but they went so fast that the Blue Oval decided to go for a few more color combos, and so came a mix of Sea Grey with silver stripes that ran for 80 units, then there was Panther Black with silver stripes for another whopping 500 Transits, Frozen White with blue stripes was the combination that only sold 80 SportVans and Ink Blue with silver stripes ended the lineup with 150.
There was something missing so Ford gave it another go and made it available in the cheekiest ever combination, Colorado Red and white Le Mans styled stripes running across the bonnet.
The Red edition of the Ford Transit Sportvan uses the underpinnings of the short wheelbase 260 version that comes with a 2.2 liter TDCi (that’s Fordian for diesel) which develops 140 horsepower, all of which are sent through a manual six speed transmission towards the front wheels.
The equipment list is long and includes air conditioning, six CD-player with controls on the steering column, cruise control, power windows, powered and heated mirrors, leather steering wheel, tinted glass, leather gearshift knob and a perimeter alarm.
Feeling like you might want more than just comfort? How about stuff like power deadlocks, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlights, front fog lights, a load area protection kit, ABS, ESP, driver and passenger airbags for some safety.
And if you still want more then you can have a look along the exterior of this car which features twin exhaust tail pipes, the agony pack, sorry, make that a set of 18 inch alloy wheels and low profile tires, and a complete body kit featuring front and rear lower spoilers, side skirts and wheel arch extensions.

There’s some interesting options you could go for as well but you’ll have to find out when you spec yours up when faced with the dealer. Speaking of which, you should hurry as this Red edition of the Ford Transit SportVan is limited to a run of 100 units and all of them will be sold in Britain for the nicely weighed sum of £22,630.
