The unit could see the light in 2012, and will debut in the Impreza model engines range. But the engine could serve a more noble purpose, namely the Japanese manufacturer come back in the world motorsport landscape. With such a powerful engine, Subaru could run again in rally competitions such as the WTCC and WRC, if it receives the FIA agreement.

About the unit is not currently known whether the boxer will be derived from the current 1.5-liter and 107 horsepower, reserved for the Impreza’s economic versions. Subaru and Cosworth are not at the first collaboration of its kind, not much time ago the Japanese was revealing a special edition Impreza STi CS400.
