The Volkswagen XL1 is certainly a well-known figure in the automotive industry. It was introduced few years ago and its main selling point was the impressive fuel economy.
After around three years, we finally get the big news as the first unit was delivered to its customer. Under the hood of the German car sits a plug-in hybrid powertrain, namely a 27hp electric motor and a 48hp TDI engine.
Add a 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery to the recipe and you will get average fuel economy figures of 0,9 liters/100 km or 261,3 mpg US.
Averaging under 1 liter per 100 kilometers is certainly a big achievement, also possible thanks to the model’s lightweight carbon fiber construction.
We are happy to see that the revolutionary Volkswagen XL1 is hitting the road but we are also looking forward to a more acceptable pricing tag. As of today, the VW XL1 can be yours for no less than €110,000.
