Ford and GM have never seriously had anything other than an ongoing civil war in Australia, in fact, the war has now escalated as the armies of the Ford side now have the pleasure of having a general that has read the book of might.

To be specific, it’s the book on forced induction and as a result the Ford FPV Falcon will now get a heart transplant as it’s old arthritic 5.4 liter V8 engine will be replaced with a new 5.0 liter supercharged V8.

The new engine that Ford Australia and Prodrive are now offering is lighter then the outgoing model and packing 449 horsepower, 420 lb-ft of torque, or, in plain Australian English, 13 horsepower more than the best Holden has to offer.

There is more about this car, as wile it has a claimed gas mileage of 17.3 mpg under performance driving conditions (it’s not like this sort of engine will see place as sales rep saloon territory, will it now?) it will struggle to average 10. Now the question is if you’d actually care about that when engaged in the on going war of Ford vs Holden and you’re winning.

It’s not all gas burning fun and sibling rivalries as the car comes with a special active exhaust which means that when you just want to get home your years won’t bleed from the V8 growl.

P.S. I’m guessing the color choice for press release photos does have a hint of irony within.
