It’s really hard not to like the Italians. It’s harder when they create awesome cars like the Ferrari 458 Italia or event he Fiat 500.
Believe it or not, it’s considerably harder when these two concepts somehow come together in the same car. This is something that is happening because of Lazzarini Design.
The Italian design studio must have had a few cold ones when they came up with the idea but what’s remarkable is that they actually carried on with the idea.
They didn’t get down to actually making it but Lazzarini Design did put some time into the CG images and the actual design they want to use.
As you’d imagine, the 4.5 liter V8 engine would need some extra space for it to be fitted even if it’s at the back of the small hatchback.
The rear seats will need to be removed and, more importantly, the wheelbase would need to be considerably lengthened.
Naturally, that’s the sort of thing that considerably changes how much work the Fiat 500 will need and makes a bit of a difference to the way it looks.
Quite a bit of bad news comes to mind as the Ferrari engine will need to be de-tuned to 550 horsepower thus giving the car the new name of Fiat 550.
The car only weighs in at around 2200 lbs so the missing horsepower will likely not be felt anyway.
At the moment the Fiat 550 is a theoretical project but the guys at Lazzarini Design must be still drinking as they are actually looking for investors to build the car for real.
