It’s not really a secret in how Fiat has taken over Chrysler in order to save the smallest of the Detroit Big 3 just as it’s not really a secret in how Fiat wants to buy more of the American company.

What is a bit of a surprise is how Sergio Marchionne (the CEO and shot caller for both companies) very calmly stepped up to the plate and gave us the latest announcement.

In a very calm voice, Sergio Marchionne delivered a bit of a shock to the world of automotive manufacturers and fans alike; Fiat and Chrysler could merge into a single entity.

To top it all off, the merger could actually happen in less than a few years, with the term two or three being thrown around.

The actual statement didn’t come with a press release but took place in front of the J.D. Power and Associates International Automotive Roundtable.

The Fiat and Chrysler merger isn’t a done deal but it’s pretty close and I have to say, the situation is going extremely well for the Americans.

Most of Chrysler’s new products are seriously a far ahead of their previous models but at the other end of the scale, Fiat’s Lancia and Alfa Romeo seem to be suffering.

I’m not completely fascinated with this idea, and really don’t like the grim future of a Chrysler rebadged as an Alfa Romeo but there you go…
