The Japanese tsunami has taken plenty of victims and caused serious cost problems to companies but Nissan seems to be doing ok.
Unlike Mazda and Honda, Nissan is, in fact, doing excellent as deliveries will most likely flow unaffected.
Most of their Japanese production is on plan, but they are inspecting the Nissan products they export for radiation exposure and we’ve just heard about the European market’s situation.
Apparently, Nissan Europe still has enough parts to cover production for another 6 weeks without any sort of trouble.
By that time, the Japanese arm of Nissan should get their production facilities sorted and part supplies could continue unaffected.
With Europe unaffected, Nissan’s Senior Vice President Andy Palmer says that the Asian market may be affected.
Nissan’s China and Thailand facilities are 95% self sufficient but that’s not going to be enough.
The remaining 5% comes from Japan and it may be enough to actually stop production there.
The same percentages apply for the rest of the markets Nissan is active in, including the U.S.
This sort of production stress is what’s made Nissan look for some alternative suppliers for these markets.
