We’ve more news on Volvo this week, and it involves something quite unusual for the car maker: a new safety feature.
Ok, this might not be so unusual as two in three news regarding them seems to refer to one form or another of vehicle safety.
This time, however, Volvo set their sights on small children and their safety in cars. Their solution is an inflatable seat that is not only easy to use but also quite safe. The small pump allows for a complete inflation in just 40 seconds. The seat even comes with a bluetooth, allowing for remote inflation using a simple smartphone.
The material used is called drop-stitch fabric, a material initially developed for the military to use in inflatable airplanes. It has since migrated to use on inflatable boats and now to the car industry. The main advantage of this fabric is its strength, allowing it to hold a high pressure, which in turn stiffens the seat for a maximum protection.
