There is no doubt that the new-gen Golf models are perhaps the fastest and most powerful within the hatch segment, with the German car manufacturer wanting to grab the whole pie and leaving the rest in the dust.

But besides the newest Golf editions, be it the standard Mk7.5 or the newly announced Golf R which promise to become the fastest in terms of acceleration, Volkswagen is also on the verge of creating the most powerful Polo GTI ever seen out on the roads, and that thanks to a new engine taken from the previous-gen Golf.

According to a new report from Auto Express, the new Polo GTI will receive the 2.0-liter TSI engine, borrowed from the previous Golf, which would replace the current 1.8-liter turbo DSG. This would result in more power as well, more than 141 kW and 250 Nm of torque.

With this in mind, the Polo GTI will have a successful run against its top predator, the new Fiesta ST, which now comes with a 1.5-liter turbo and plenty of power as well.

Once arriving on the market with the aforementioned engine, the new Polo GTI will also be equipped with a DSG gearbox, along with a locking front differential, indicating thus a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in around 5.0 seconds.

Besides the reported engine, the all-new 2018 VW Polo GTI will also be equipped with a wide range of three- and four-cylinder turbo engines. All will stand on the company`s new MQB A0 platform, which means more lightweight materials and increase acceleration and performance.

With the new engine in mind, the new Polo GTI will have a strong point against the Fiesta ST`s 1.5 engine or the Yaris GRMN`s 1.8-liter engine. Stay tuned for incoming news on that matter!
